Accessibility Statement

We want ellerand.com to be usable by everyone, including people who browse with a screen reader, navigate without a mouse, enlarge text, or rely on captions. This page explains what we are aiming for, what we have done, where we know we fall short, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.

Our commitment

Accessibility is part of building the site properly, not an extra feature. We treat an accessibility barrier the same way we treat a broken checkout: as a defect to fix. If any part of this site stops you from finding information, reading a page or placing an order, we want to hear about it and we will help you complete what you were trying to do in the meantime.

The standard we are working toward

We are working toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.1, at Level AA. Those guidelines are the widely accepted benchmark for making web content perceivable, operable, understandable and robust.

We describe this as work in progress rather than a finished result, because that is the honest position. Ellerand is a new store and the site changes often. We are not claiming full conformance across every page and every component today.

Measures we take

  • We use semantic page structure, with real headings in a logical order and landmarks that assistive technology can navigate.
  • Images that carry meaning are given alternative text. Images that are purely decorative are marked so they are skipped rather than read aloud.
  • We aim for text and background color combinations that meet Level AA contrast ratios.
  • We do not rely on color alone to communicate anything important, so information is still available if colors are hard to tell apart.
  • Interactive elements are reachable and operable using a keyboard alone, and the focused element is visibly indicated.
  • Form fields have labels that stay visible, and error messages explain what went wrong in plain words.
  • Link and button text is written to make sense on its own, without the surrounding sentence.
  • Text resizes and content reflows on small screens and at high zoom levels, without content being cut off.
  • Where we publish video, we provide captions.
  • We check pages with automated tools and also review them by hand, including navigating without a mouse, because automated checks alone catch only part of the picture.

Where we know we fall short

Parts of this store are built on software we do not write. Checkout, payment, embedded content and other third party features are supplied by outside providers, and their accessibility is largely outside our direct control. Some of that content may not be fully conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

The same applies to anything we did not create ourselves, and to older content that may not yet meet the standard we hold new pages to.

Where we find a barrier in third party software, we do two things. We raise it with the provider, and we look for an accessible alternative or a way around it on our side. When neither is available quickly, we will do the task with you directly, by phone or by email, so you are not left stuck waiting on someone else's release schedule.

Reporting an accessibility barrier

Please tell us. Specific reports are the fastest route to a fix, and we would rather hear about a small annoyance than have you give up on the site.

  • Email support@ellerand.com and put the word Accessibility in the subject line.
  • Call us on +1 205 287 9987.
  • Write to us at Ellerand, 29146 Renee St, Andalusia, AL 36421, United States.

If you can, tell us the address of the page, what you were trying to do, what stopped you, and the browser, device or assistive technology you were using. Any of that helps, and a rough description is still useful if you do not have the details.

We aim to respond within three business days. If a fix will take longer than that, we will tell you what we are doing about it and when you can expect it, rather than going quiet. While we work on it, we will get you the information or complete your order another way.

Requesting information in another format

Anything published on this site can be provided in an alternative format at no cost to you. That includes product information, ingredient information, usage instructions and our policies.

We can send content as plain text in an email, supply a large print version, or read it to you over the phone. Ask at support@ellerand.com or on +1 205 287 9987 and tell us which format suits you. If you need something in a format we have not listed, ask anyway and we will try to arrange it.

Keeping this current

We review this statement as the site changes and as we make improvements, and we update it when the position described here is no longer accurate. If you find something on this page that does not match your experience of the site, that is worth reporting too.
